  • 11.7 cm, 4 5/8  in.
each decorated with three registers of upright lotus petals in pink enamels below a band of yellow-ground pink speckles and above a green-ground blue-speckled band at the foot, all within gilt borders, each cover similarly enamelled with two registers of lotus petals surrounded by green upturned leaves, surmounted by a gilt knop encircled by yellow-ground lotus pods and stamens, the interior and base left white, inscribed to the base with a six-character mark in underglaze blue

Condition

The bowls are in good overall condition with just minor firing imperfections and light surface wear.

Catalogue Note

A similar bowl and cover, included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing from the Kwan Collection, Art Gallery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1983, cat. no. 138, was sold at Christie's Singapore, 30th March 1997, lot 283. William Scranton (1917-2013) served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1967, and Ambassador to the U.N. from 1976 to 1977.
