Catalogue Note

The present lot is no ordinary GMT-Master II, but rather a very rare yellow gold counterpart of the stainless steel 116710. Despite bearing the same case proportions and movement, that is as much as these watches have in common. From the fully diamond set dial to the diamond set lugs on the case, the most stand-out feature of this reference is the blue sapphire and red ruby set bezel. This bezel is reminiscent of the classic and iconic blue and red Pepsi bezel GMT-Master, but instead of the cerachrom or metal bezel with numbers, this one replaced those by precious gemstones.
This impressive and rare timepiece is in direct lineage to the mythical 16758 'SARU' which was, in the mid-eighties, not only one of the first factory-set Rolex in history but also the first GMT set with precious stones, fitted with a similar ruby, sapphire and diamond-set bezel and pavé diamond-set dial.   Rolex only produced a small number of these watches, which makes this well preserved, full set watch a true collector’s piece.
