The 6239 was introduced in 1963 in the United States which started the history of the most celebrated chronograph in the world.
The most striking element of this lot is its Paul Newman dial, so named after he was said to have worn one in the 1969 while promoting the film, 'Winning'.
In fact, the actor was pictured wearing a 6239 with a Paul Newman dial similar to the present lot.
The three-colour white dial is perfectly complemented by the black outer track with red graduation echoed by the red Daytona signature above the subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock. In well preserved condition, the dial is vibrant and catches the light nicely, giving the piece a strong and elegant presence on the wrist.
This lot is fitted with its original bezel graduated to 300 units and a 722-1 movement, characteristic of the latest upgrade on the 6239 before it was replaced at the end of the decade.
