Provenance

Collegium Maius, Krakow, inscription on title; "C.D.", purple ink stamps; Per Hierta (1864-1924), Swedish book collector, signature. Hierta owned a large collection of about 300 incunabula, which in 1911 was given to the Swedish Royal Library; Per Hierta sale, Björn and Börjesson, Stockholm, item number 551, 90 kroner, 26 October-30 November 1932; bought by K.A. Jacobsen, bookplate; his son Ole Lars Jacobsen; thence by family descent

Catalogue Note

The large folding map is a simplified version of the famous "Carta Marina" of 1539. Formerly attributed to J.B. Fickler but subsequently identified as the work of Thomas Weber in 1567, it shows the whole of northern Europe (Grenacher, in: Imago Mundi XIII, 1956, p. 171).
