Catalogue Note

A finely bound crisp copy of one of the most important 17th century European accounts of travel in the Middle East and Asia, written by a Parisian jeweller and first published in 1676 in French. The work is divided into 3 separately paginated parts, the first on Persia, the second 'describing India and the isles adjacent', and the third on the Seraglio. The second part also includes notes on Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Batavia, Siam (Thailand), Japan and other countries in Asia. There is also a description of Cyprus on pages 79-81.
