4to (362 x 280mm.), 53 watercolours on paper (252 x 187mm.), each mounted on thick paper with a border, one signed "D.A. Schmid fecit in Schwyz", some with place names, contemporary red morocco decorated in blind and gilt, upper cover titled in gilt, flat spine gilt, extremities slightly rubbed

Catalogue Note

A fine collection of Swiss costume watercolours. David Alois Schmid (1791-1861) studied painting and drawing in Lucerne and later in Johann Heinrich Bleuler's school of art in Feuerthalen, and became well known for his paintings of Swiss costume.
