Description

Hermitage, La Chapelle 1972 Paul Jaboulet Aîné u. 1x3cm, 1x3.5cm, 10 levels into the neck, bin-soiled and scuffed labels, neck labels, and capsules, bin-soiled bottles, 2 slightly raised corks, excellent color and clarityThere are massive 'legs' on the three vintages 1972, 1971 and 1970. The wine falls slowly down the glass leaving a trail like a snail, a sure sign of glycerol and 'fat'. A bouquet of glorious chocolate and iron. . Smoky blackcurrants. Tremendous, almost sweet scent. Smells like a great, much older wine from the Côte de Nuits. Vanilla pods and cinnamon sticks. Russian leather. Huge tannin and acidity. Great vegetal richness with a chocolate and coffee aftertaste and smoky fruit. A real pleasure to drink now and a wine that is very 'together'. Serena Sutcliffe, MW11 bts (oc)Estimates are per lot
