Description

Hermitage, La Chapelle 1972 Paul Jaboulet Aîné u. 2x3cm, 1x4cm, 4 levels into the neck, wines come from 2 different importers, heavily bin-soiled and scuffed labels, vintage neck labels, and capsules, 2 different style capsules, stickers adhered to 2 capsules, 2 raised corks, 3 sunken corksThere are massive 'legs' on the three vintages 1972, 1971 and 1970. The wine falls slowly down the glass leaving a trail like a snail, a sure sign of glycerol and 'fat'. A bouquet of glorious chocolate and iron. . Smoky blackcurrants. Tremendous, almost sweet scent. Smells like a great, much older wine from the Côte de Nuits. Vanilla pods and cinnamon sticks. Russian leather. Huge tannin and acidity. Great vegetal richness with a chocolate and coffee aftertaste and smoky fruit. A real pleasure to drink now and a wine that is very 'together'. Serena Sutcliffe, MW7 bts (sc)Estimates are per lot
