The canvas has not been lined and is securely attached to a keyed wooden stretcher. There are some faint stretcher marks visible, corresponding to the upper, right and left stretcher members. There is one pin-head sized spot of flaking in the background closer to the centre of the left edge. Some minor frame rubbing is also visible along the extreme framing edges. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals strokes of fluorescence along the extreme framing edges, which appears to be associated to both old residual varnish and some strokes of retouching, notably in the lower right corner and along the extreme lower edge. Some other minor spots of cosmetic retouching are also visible in the background in the right hand side of the composition. The main figure appears to be virtually untouched. Overall, this work is in good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in decorative gilt frame with a nameplate.
