Catalogue Note

Jean-Paul-André de Razins, Marquis de Saint Marc, was an amateur lyric poet. Danloux's model, he was one of the artist's oldest clients. His charming portrait, the frontispiece for his poetic works, carries an inscription at the bottom: engraved after the portrait by Danloux by Ch. Gaucher of the Academy of Arts of England (see R. Portalis, Henry-Pierre Danloux, peintre de portraits et son journal durant l'émigration (1753-1809), Paris 1910, p. 13, reproduced).
