Description

  • Noli me tangere
  • Oil on canvas, unlined
  • 55,7 x 40,8 cm; 22 by 16 in.

Condition

The actual painting is more contrasted and less strong in its colouring than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The painting is unlined, with the canvas having been re-stretched and strip-lined. The painted surface seems to be in a good condition. We can see some minor thinness in the darker areas and discoloured retouching lower right and in the sky area. The painted surface is covered with an old dirty varnish layer. The craquelure pattern is consistent with its age. Under UV light Some retouches around the edges and on the rocks on the left can be seen. There is an area of retouched craquelure in the rocks around the faces of the figures, in the blue shawl of Mary Magdalen, on her face, on the white cloth of the Christ, on the shovel and on the upper right angle in the trees. Offered with a brown-gold painted frame.
