Condition

The actual painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest. To the naked eye The overall condition seems to be good. The painting is painted on an oak panel consisting of probably two planks joined horizontally, and it has been cradled. The painting seems to be perfectly stable and we cannot notice any lifting. Some thinness can be observed throughout. The varnish layer is quite dirty and yellowed and needs to be lightened. Under UV light The painting appears under a green uniform varnish. We can notice that the panel is made of two planks with a horizontal junction in the middle of the composition. Several restorations can be noticed along this join and some very light repaints are visible in the horse mouth and legs on the left. The body of the bull in the upper left part has been slightly restored. In conclusion, the painting seems to be in an overall fairly good condition. Offered with a gold-brown painted wooden frame.
