Linda and Gerald Guterman, Bedford (New York);
Their sale, New York, Sotheby's, 14 January 1988, lot 31.

Condition

The panel has been cradled. The painted surface seems to be in a nice condition, with the colours of the figures and the landscape nicely preserved. Some thinness can be observed in the sky area, and in the figures, mostly in the dark parts of their clothing. Seemingly some of the green areas of the clothing have been added later. No major damages seem to be apparent; some minor surface dirt visible throughout. Under UV light The varnish layer fluoresces largely, showing some areas of strengthening in the sky and some minor ones in the figures group center right and around the edges. Offered with a black painted wooden frame with a gold fillet. Please note that Sotheby’s does not guarantee the condition of the frame.
