Catalogue Note

This work is registered in the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) under no. 61501.

There are three existing versions of this subject in oil on canvas and a single watercolour. Hodler portrayed the five year old Albertine Bernhard after her father's death at the same period when he also made portraits of his own children. The young girl's face and hair bring to mind the painters depictions of his own niece.
