Description

  • 9.5cm. high, 17.5cm. wide, 12cm. deep; 3 3/4 in., 6 7/8 in., 4 3/4 in.
the mouldings and bracket feet stuccoed in shallow relief with foliate strapwork, the panels inset with watercolours painted on vellum depicting music making courtly figures

Condition

This casket is in overall good conserved condition. Generally with small scattered chipping, old marks and scratches throughout, consistent with age and use. The paintings on vellum with very minor losses and dust, but otherwise generally in good condition. The left front bottom corner with visible chip, as well as the right front and back corners, and one along the left edge of the lid (the later only visible upon opening the casket). The front left foot shows signs of residual glue, which indicates a break that has been well restored. The back left protective transparent panel with two cracks at the top. The mirror inside extensively with foxing. The interior textile with old marks and some signs of wear. One key.
