Catalogue Note

When this intriguing type of local hardstone was used in snuff boxes by Johann Christian Neuber, it was described as ribbon agate from Gnandstein, near Frohburg (Alexis Kugel, Gold Jasper and Carnelian, Johann Christian Neuber at the Saxon Court, London, 2012, p. 328, no. 66).
