Description

  • 12.5cm., 4 1/2 in. high
bullet-shaped, the curve spout issuing from a mask, the loop handle with leaf terminal, the lower part of the body moulded with a band of stiff acanthus, the domed cover applied with fruiting vines, painted in the style of J.E. Stadler with flowering branches, the mask enriched in colours, the relief work enriched in gilding

Condition

The cover is a match, it is a good fit, but the pattern and paste differ. The rim of the teapot has a restored section approximately 4 cm. around the edge and about 1 cm. deep max. There is another restored rim chip on the opposite side of the teapot rim. The teapot has some patches of wear to the mask and a few scratches to the enamel. The gilding to the tip of the spout is slightly work. The cover is a creamier coloured paste so possibly slightly earlier than the teapot, it is in generally good order with only scattered minor chipping to the applied vine-leaf ornament. The gilding is a little worn to the extremities. The gilding to both pieces is slightly matt.
