Description

  • 21cm., 8¼ in. high
of waisted cylindrical form, painted with bands of fruiting leaves within scroll borders, 28.7cm.; 11⅜ in. high; together with an Italian maiolica blue and white albarello, within inscribed banner among scrolling foliage, 24.5cm., 9½ in. high; and a wet drug jar, Venice, 1560, named in gothic script in a banner cartouche among scrolling foliage, 

Condition

The taller albarello is generally in good order but has a crack from the rim which forks at the neck and just below the shoulder. Two areas of glaze chipping to the body. The blue and white albarello has chipping to foot rim and some glaze flaking but is generally in good order. The syrup jar has a rim chip and is restored to the spout, much of the spout has old and discoloured restoration which disguises some loss. There is a body crack running horizontally below the spout. The old restoration could be cleaned off and replaced.
