Description

  • 18.5cm., 7 1/4 in. high
baluster form, profusely decorated with lattice-work panels, scrolling foliage, and rocaille ornament, on a similarly decorated spreading shaped circular foot, bayonet-fasted cover, removable plain silver liner with pierced cover

Condition

Marks struck well to foot, date latter partially lost so cannot make out second digit '6?'. Other marks clear. Very good heavy gauge. The internal liner is unmarked. the cover with missing bird finial. Otherwise in good condition.

Catalogue Note

For an almost identical example, with bird finial, see H.B. Cools, Antwerps Huissilver Uit De 17e En 18e Eeuw, Rubenshuis, Antwerp 1989, no. 132. It is described and pictured alongside a matching mustard pot. They form part of the Austrian Imperial silver collection in Vienna (inv. 18048/001 005), commisisoned by Charles of Lorraine in 1780.
