Provenance

Collection of Nellie A. Vehon (1897-1993).
Gifted to The Art Institute of Chicago in 1976 (acc. no. 1976.155-156). 

Condition

Each in overall good condition with a few scattered minor chips to the extremities of the carving including to the wings. Each phoenix is mounted and affixed in its quartz base. The jadeite and quartz have natural fissures and inclusions. The jadeite is whiter than the image in the printed catalogue.
