Description

  • 72cm high, 120cm. wide, 434.5cm. wide fully extended and 134cm. wide closed., 2ft. 4¼in., 3ft. 11¼in., 14ft. 3in., 4ft. 4¾in.
the reeded top with short drop-leaves to each end with a concertina-action supported by nine ring-turned tapering legs, with five additional leaves together with a Victorian mahogany leaf-case bespoke to the table (7)

Condition

In 'Country House' condition. An impressive piece which his faded in places, it has variations to colour on the top and between leaves, some of which has been re-polished. One leave with gouged scratches to later polished surface. Mechanism a little sticky. Some brass clips lacking. Brass elements tarnished. Old repair to one x-frame brass fitting on the underside. The later leaf case is good all the baise on the runners has had moth and wil need replacing. Split to top of leaf case which has old marks scuffs and scratches from storage in the attic. Sensitively conserved this table will be practical and extremely impressive. The whole thing compacts so that the top measures 60.5cm. by 134cm. which is impressive for such a large table. The leaf-case with a depository label for 'George Hilton & Sons / Haywards Heath' and typed 'J. L. Smith Esq.'
