Domenico Zampieri, called "Domenichino" was one of the most important artists working in Rome at the beginning of the 17th century. Trained by Annibale Carracci in Bologna, Domenichino left for Rome in 1609 and fully established himself as an independent master with his fresco series at San Luigi dei Francesco, in 1614-15. While he was highly regarded for his religious works and large-scale frescoes, his landscapes were perhaps his most influential works for the generations of artists to follow him, including both Claude and Poussin.
