The canvas has an old relining. The canvas slightly undulates in the lower right corner and near the center of the upper edge. There is a small area of rubbing in the lower right corner, and a few very small spots of repaired loss near extreme edges, for example one at upper edge just left of center. Although the painting has not been attended to in some time, and is slightly dirty in areas beneath and old and yellowed varnish, the painting still presents a strong image and reads well. There is a thin vertical crack that runs through the middle of the painting, though this is not too distracting. There are a few scattered old repairs visible throughout, for example a spot through the crack at center, two spots in the billowing fabric at upper left, and in the background at upper right. Old retouches are visible throughout the composition, many of which have discolored and are visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV reveals an old milky varnish, beneath which are visible the aforementioned discolored retouches. It also reveals that some of the foliage and shadows near the extreme edges have been strengthened, as have some of the shadows beneath leg at lower center. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
