Description
- Portrait of a young boy wearing an elaborate red dress, standing near a drum in an interior
- oil on canvas, unlined
- 42 3/4 by 36 7/8 in.; 108.6 by 93.7 cm.
Condition
The canvas is unlined and is stable on its stretcher. The painting is in good condition, retaining much of its intricate detail and vibrant coloring. Overall, it presents a very strong image. There is a very small spot of repair in the background to the right of the figure's head. Inspection under UV reveals a slightly milky varnish, some areas of retouching to the extreme edges, likely to address old frame abrasion, and a few small spots scattered here and there throughout the background, none of which are distracting. There is a small spot of retouching in the drapery of table at lower left, and a thin line of retouching in the background to right of child's hip. A few very small pin dots of retouching in the face. The painting can certainly be hung as is, and it is offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.
