London, Old Water-Colour Society, 1854, no. 255
The canal of Rio dei Greci runs from north to south and lies to the east of the Grand Canal, opposite San Gorgio Maggiore. The sixteenth century church of San Giorgio dei Greci was the centre of the Greek community and its belltower - which can be seen in this watercolour - was erected in 1599.
The watercolour pigments have remained fresh and strong in this watercolour. There is a thin line of discolouration at the extreme edges, which is connected with a previous mount. The sheet is not laid down and is in general good condition. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
