The canal of Rio dei Greci runs from north to south and lies to the east of the Grand Canal, opposite San Gorgio Maggiore. The sixteenth century church of San Giorgio dei Greci was the centre of the Greek community and its belltower - which can be seen in this watercolour - was erected in 1599.
