Catalogue Note
Waterloo worked primarily as a draughtsman and etcher, specialising in landscape scenes, which vary from highly detailed and topographically accurate views to atmospheric forest interiors. This extensive landscape, executed in Waterloo's preferred combination of black chalk, oiled black chalk and wash, is a particularly atmospheric depiction of a tree-lined terrain with a village in the distance.
