Condition

Some light staining around the edges of the sheet and surface dirt. Several creases throughout the sheet. Chalk still strong and overall sheet is in fairly good condition.

Catalogue Note

Although it has not been possible to connect this drawing with a known work by Lanfranco, it is comparable in graphic style to other drawings by the artist.  The handling of chalk, applied rather energetically in the present study, is comparable to a drawing of the Madonna and Child by Lanfranco in the Uffizi, Florence.1 1.
