The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean, and the rather shiny varnish is very slightly discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light appears to reveal minimal intervention. There are very small, fine lines of retouching in the bridge and tip of the woman’s nose, around her mouth, along her jaw line, and in parts of her collar. There are more concentrated areas of retouching in the top of her veil 2 x 3 cm., in her proper right hand 3 x 4 cm., and to an L-shaped repaired tear in her proper left sleeve 2 x 4 cm. Other small retouchings are scattered in the background. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
