Condition

The sheet is adhered to the back board at all four corners and at the centre of the upper and lower edges. There are Artist's pinholes at the upper corners and to the centre of the upper edge. The sheet undulates throughout. There are two small tears to the extreme left edge and one small tear to the centre of the extreme upper edge. There are faint historic creases to the upper left, upper right and lower left corners, with further faint creases to the centre of the right and left edges. There is faint staining to the extreme edges, in line with a previous mount. There is studio matter most likley in keeping with the Artist's techniques and light surface dirt in places. Subject to the above, the work appears in very good overall condition. The work is floated and held behind glass in a painted wooden frame. Catalogue Note

‘I went to the swimming pools and drew and painted those. It was all about space and movement and light and every time you look you see something different, you experience something different.’ (Leon Kossoff, quoted in ‘London Landscape’, Financial Times, 10th October 2014).
