Literature

Condition

The canvas is original. The collaged elements appear to be securely adhered to the canvas, but are slightly lifting and fraying in one or two places. There are a number of scuffs to the work, predominantly at the extreme edges. There is some further surface dirt and studio matter throughout. There are also some accretions to the surface. This excepting the work is in generally very good condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a small number of inconsistencies in the varnish. The work is unframed. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.

Catalogue Note

'Arrive at a colour - a colour so organised and controlled as to be able to envelop you if you are willing to generate the mind and spirit. We all feel various effects from coming up against nature or man-made objects but always there is some colour somewhere which tempts, titillates or repels us, or leads us in and on, to a form and content and perhaps to something unknown to us.' (Terry Frost, notebooks late 1960s-70s, quoted in Lewis and Knowles, ibid, p.179)
