Catalogue Note

Ali Kazim brilliantly creates multilayered paintings using oil and water-based pigments. This work is from his Man on Animal Skin series, where he uses leather dyes and pigments on leather to create a layered textured effect. ‘Kazim is fascinated by the human body and is interested in exploring its position within space and time. This desire to explore man’s identity and place in the universe has directed the majority of his art making and he returns to this theme time and time again.’ Z. His works feature in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and British Museum, London; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane (Australia); Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Asia Pacific Museum, Pasadena; Burger Collection, Hong Kong; Samdani Art Foundation, Dhaka; Creative Cities Collection, Beijing; and Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Tunisia, among others. Kazim lives and works in Lahore.
