Catalogue Note

"This form suggested itself to me when I noticed the natural twist in a particular variety of cactus. The alternate concaves and convexes made out of the twists and the sharp outlines encompassing them are the keynote of this sculpture. The sharp, rigid and metallic lines here accentuate a feeling different from the one originated by volume in mass.
Lately I have been trying to explore the sculptural possibilities in this direction. The introduction of emphatic line in sculpture, I believe, will open up a new vista augmenting the design value of a piece of sculpture and also create a sensation in the beholder. This sensation, inherent in a sweeping line when assimilated with other values of sculpture, will surely help to take us a step forward towards goal of all arts—the sublimation of emotions." (K. Das Gupta, My Sculpture: Prodosh Das Gupta, Oxford Book & Stationery Co. Calcutta and New Delhi, 1955, p. 28)
