ALBERTO BURRI: DUE OPERE DA UNA IMPORTANTE COLLEZIONE PRIVATA ITALIANA (LOTTI 40 E 41)
Combustione stands at the heart of a stylistic path that bears witness to two important goals of Alberto Burri's career: the Combustioni and the Cretti.
These are two chapters of an inevitable temporal path: the wound and its consequent cicatrization.
The flame, with its alchemical ability to mutate and to wound the materials, is here tinged with an obscure power. Burri blackens an already dark material, which is naturally predisposed to this process of transfiguration and at first sight confuses the perception of what we are seeing: the wound is carefully escorted, stands in the exact half of the painting as if hidden. And this same wound already presents the first signs of scarring, of the typical aridity present in the series of cretti. We are in front of a hybrid work that offers greater understanding of the path of this great artist.
It is evident that through his works, Burri not only transmits something, a message, an idea or an intention, but it is easily perceivable that the work represents the witness of a dialogue between the artist and one of nature's infinite faces. The mystery that permeates all his works creates an intimate bond with each one of us. A sensation of vertigo, an instant sensation where one may find the conviction of having understood all the meaning of his art and of having become part of his dialogue.
