"Da che cosa deriva il fresco senso della materia nell’arte di Zauli? A parer mio esso è dovuto al fatto che questo artista non si oppone alla terra, ma alla terra si adatta, vale a dire plasma forme che ne seguono la vita. Zauli, cioè, invece di comprimere o distorcere a forza la terra, coglie piuttosto, acutamente, la forma naturale invisibile che al suo interno si cela, e la concretizza con vivezza" (Yoshiaki Inui, 1977). Dal vaso-oggetto alla forma plastica, quest’opera documenta la transizione dell’artista verso sculture astratte d’ispirazione organica e forma geometrica. Le opere di questo periodo sono caratterizzate da curve organiche, bordi frastagliati, crepe e fessure che sembrano essere emerse dalla terra stessa. E’ tale connessione tra Zauli e la natura che ha reso la sua opera ampiamente venerata anche in Giappone.
"From what does the fresh sense of matter derive in Zauli's art? In my opinion it is due to the fact that this artist does not oppose the earth, but adapts to the earth, that is to say, moulds forms that follow life. Zauli, that is, instead of compressing or distorting the earth by force, grasps, rather acutely, the invisible natural form that hides within it, and concretizes it vividly" (Yoshiaki Inui, 1977). From the vase-object to plastic form, this work documents the artist's transition towards abstract sculptures of organic inspiration and geometric form. Works of this period are characterized by organic curves, jagged edges, cracks and fissures that seem to have emerged from the earth itself. It is such connection between Zauli and nature that made his work hugely revered also in Japan.
