Caratterizzato dalla forma superiore che ricorda una mezza-luna, in Vaso del 1950 circa emerge il gusto tattile dell’artista che conferisce una presenza sontuosa alla materia. I colori, infatti, sono come spruzzati con continue velature, stratificazioni e colature: questo risultato è stato ottenuto da Melotti attraverso un sapiente uso del fuoco, tale da far emergere il trattamento deliberatamente pittorico dell’opera.
Esile come un foglio di metallo e più leggero della porcellana, Vaso del 1955 a forma di siluro è in sintonia con molte altre opere dell'artista, in cui le possibilità della materia vengono esplorate senza restrizioni. In questo Vaso, in particolare, emerge tutta la sensibilità cromatica e l’abilità di Melotti nell’utilizzo degli smalti, che porta l’artista a lavorare intensamente i colori attraverso sovrapposizioni e colature, per poi cogliere l’imprevedibilità dovuta dalla cottura.
Characterized by the upper shape that resembles a half-moon, in Vaso of 1950 the tactile taste of the artist emerges, which gives a sumptuous presence to the material. The colors, in fact, seem sprayed with continuous glazes, stratifications and sagging: this result was obtained by Melotti through a skillful use of fire, such as to bring out the deliberately pictorial treatment of the work.
Slender as a sheet of metal and yet lighter than porcelain, this torpedo-shaped Vaso Siluro is attuned with many other works by the artist, in which the possibilities of matter are explored without restrictions. In this vase, in particular, Melotti’s chromatic sensitivity and ability in the use of the glazes emerge, leading the artist to intensely work on the colours through overlapping and drippings, then to grasp the unpredictability owed by the kiln.
