LEWIS VASLET OF BATH | Portrait of a lady, 1791

Estimate
1,500 - 2,000 GBP
bidding is closed

Description

  • Portrait of a lady, 1791
  • Watercolour and bodycolour on ivory, gold and enamel hinged fausse-montre frame, Joshua Marston, London, 1791
  • 71 by 56 mm.

Provenance

Dr John Lumsden Propert (d. 1902), by 1897;
sale, London, Christie's, 7 December 2004, lot 229

Condition

Possibly faded overall, but unifed. The edge of the apeture is lightly puckered; the champleve enamel border has been restored in several areas and has suffered further minor losses. This does not distract from the overall impact of this impressive frame. It is worth noting that is rare to find frame maker marks on portrait miniature frames.
