  • A SMALL RENAISSANCE GILT-BRASS ASTRONOMICAL MONSTRANCE TIMEPIECECIRCA 1580 AND LATER
  • height 18cm
• Movement: later 18th century watch movement with verge escapement, the balance and pierced cocks mounted on the backplate, signed Jans• Dial: 1¾-inch dial engraved I-XII and 13-24, originally with hour hand only and now with later hour and minute hands, the rear with astrolabic dial no longer connected to the movement• Case: hexagonal case surmounted by a naked male figure and supported by a metamorphic term, the moulded base cast with fruit and concealing a compass and sundial calibrated for latitudes 45, 48 and 51 degrees, the underside listing European cities and their latitudes 

Condition

DIAL: in good condition, hands replaced CASE: The case in generally good condition and retaining some original gilding. No winder. MOVEMENT: Movement replaced, it appears complete but is not running and needs service and overhaul, rear astrolabe not connected to the movement.
