- A SMALL GOLD AND AGATE CHATELAINE WATCH WITH MATCHING CRANK KEYCIRCA 1760, NO. 169
- diameter 32.5mm, length overall 115mm
• Movement: gilded full plate, verge escapement, balance cock symmetrically pierced and engraved with foliage, a winged head at the neck, silver regulation plate, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, signed and numbered G. Dutens, 169• Dial: white enamel with aperture for winding at 3 o'clock, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring• Case: the back set with a single agate, bezel further set with agate, gold mounts, stirrup-form pendant and bow • short chatelaine with matching panels set with agate, the uppermost panel with gilt-metal pendant hook to back, pendant chain terminating in a matching agate-set crank key
Condition
Dial: In attractive condition with very feint hairline running from centre towards 2 o'clock, very small chip to edge of winding aperture. Case: A couple of cracks to the agate of the bezel, the gold mounts with light scuffs and scratches. Solder visible where the pendant clip joins the upper panel of the chatelaine. Crank key does fit but with some wear to its squares. Movement: Running at time of cataloguing, with some tarnishing.
