The daughter of Augustus John, Elizabeth Anne "Poppet" John was born in 1912. The present work is a sketch that was gifted by John to Poppet’s second husband Villiers A’Court Bergne during his courtship of Poppet.
The sheet is affixed to the mount with strips of adhesive tape along the upper and lower edges. The edges have been slightly unevenly cut. The sheet undulates very slightly. There is a very faint horizontal crease towards the lower edge. There is staining to the edges of the sheet in line with a previous mount, only visible to the upper edge in the current mount. There is time staining to the sheet and some surface dust. This excepting, the work appears in overall very good condition.
The work is window mounted in a painted canvas slip and gilt painted wooden frame.
