Condition
The canvas is original. The canvas has been stretched around a wooden board. There are tiny areas towards each corner of very fine lines of craquelure in line with pins or pegs from the support - these are only visible upon close inspection. The white pigment is possibly slightly discoloured in places. There is some unevenness to the paint texture in a vertical area in the central square feature. There is light surface dust. This excepting, the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a probable thin layer of mould, which makes a reading under UV difficult. However, there are areas of fluorescence and probable retouching to the white pigment as well as towards the centre of the composition. These have been sensitively executed. The work is floated in a painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
