Condition

The canvas is original. The canvas undulates very slightly towards the lower right corner. There are Artist's pinholes to the left, upper and lower edges and left corners, with associated minute spots of loss. There is a faint stretcher bar mark towards the right edge. There is a fleck of loss in the leaf towards the centre of the upper edge. There are a few tiny scratches towards the centre of the lower edge with one further example towards the centre of the left edge. There is light surface dirt and small instances of surface matter and studio detritus. This excepting, the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light is rendered difficult by a layer of uneven varnish but there may be possible historic retouching to the extreme upper and right edges. The work is held in a painted and gilt painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
