Description

  • John Banting
  • Head with Netting
  • household paint and netting on board
  • 50.5 by 56cm.; 20 by 22in.

Condition

The board has been laid onto the backing board. All elements of the netting appear secure and intact. There is some very minor abrasion to the extreme edges of the board in places, not visible in the present frame. There is some flattening to a small number of impasto tips. There are a few areas where the paint surface is uneven due to the drying process. There are instances of studio detritus and surface matter, and some surface dirt in places. This excepting, the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals areas of fluorescence mainly in the background. These may be evidence of historic retouching or potential reworking by the Artist. The work is window mounted and held behind glass in a stained wooden frame.
