Catalogue Note
Andy Warhol’s first exhibition of Campbell’s Soup cans in 1962 was met with confusion and outrage, but by the end of his career the works had become icons of contemporary art. It is therefore no surprise that the artist would return to this series that had changed the course of art history in the final years of his career. Rather than repeating the exact same motif however, Warhol chose to depict a different Campbell’s product, as shown here in Campbell’s Soup Box: Chicken Rice from 1986.
