  • 36 by 24 inches
in each thangka the Buddha seated on a lotus throne at the center, holding his hands in varada mudra in two images, dharmachakra mudra and dhyana mudra in the others, with halos framing the Buddha in blue repeated twice, green and orange, surrounded in a landscape of stupas, palace complexes, lakes and greenery all portraying past deeds in previous lives of the Buddha Shakyamuni Himalayan Art Resources item no. 13605, 13606, 13607, 13608.

Condition

In overall good condition. Pigments well intact with very little accretion. Thangka with blue halo and palace complex in lower right corner showing heavy abrasion in lower quarter of the painting. A horizontal repair running along the center of the painting, repair visible on verso with adhesive. Some consolidation in blue throne back in areas of where pigment was abraded. In thangka with blue halo and water scene below, a repair visible also along central axis running horizontally across the painting. Abrasion and loss in the left side of the thangka at midpoint on vertical axis. Consolidation also visible in the blue pigment of the throne back.The thankga with green throne back showing heavy creasing along the central horizontal axis. In addition two repairs running vertically down the painting on the right third side with subsequent consolidated areas. A one inch tear running vertically down the center part of the Buddha's chest. The fourth thangka with red halo showing two vertical repairs running along the right third and left third of the painting with associated areas of consolidation. Abrasion along the upper left quadrant of the painting and lower quarter of the painting.
