Description

  • Height 7 in. (17.8 cm.)
seated in dhyanasana with hands held together in dhyanamudra holding a bhumpa, the arms flanked by undulating sashes, adorned with elaborate jewelry, wearing a five-leaf diadem crowned with a tall ushnisha, with tresses of hair falling to the shoulders and a pair of pendulous earlobes with ornamental earrings resting on the shoulders, the face rendered with a serene and meditative expression Himalayan Art Resources item no. 13634.

Provenance

Acquired in China, circa 1945 and thus by descent. 

Condition

In good overall condition. With accretion and loss to gilding throughout. Traces of polychromy fill holes where precious stones are now lost and visible on hair and back of crown. Vase now loose and removable from sculpture. Base plate intact.
