Description

  • Height: 6 1/4 in., 15.8 cm.
the Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base edged with a beaded rim, the right hand raised in abhayamudra and the left held in dhyanamudra, richly adorned in jewelry inlaid with precious stones, the head and body encircled with a billowing scarf, wearing large floral rounded earrings gently resting on the top of his shoulders, a five-pointed crown surrounding an ushnisha topped with a jewel crests the top of the head, the face with half-open eyelids, incised arched eyebrows, lips gently turned upwards into a smile express a serene and benevolent comportment  Himalayan Art Resources item no. 13622.

Condition

Overall good condition. Surface wear and accretion throughout. Minor areas of loss to the gilding with traces of blue polychromy visible on the hair. Denting to the middle and lower torso on the back of the figure and to the lower base. Ten unevenly placed circular pins, possibly used to repair the back of the sculpture. Base plate intact, not original with a sticker labelled "Bagjrasattva Avalokiteshvara".
