Condition

The canvas is lined. There is a uneven and milky varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating, however examination under UV light appears to reveal lines and dots of retouching along the extreme edges. There are some additional dots of retouching in places, notably in the clouds and in the brown background towards the centre of the composition. There are incised lines to the lower part of the composition, probably inherent to the artist's process. There are some lines of craquelure associated with small paint losses along the upper edge. There are stretcher bar marks running horizontally across the centre of the composition. There are some small areas of paint shrinkage in places and a few surface scratches, notably to the centre of the left edge. Surface is a bit dirty. There is some frame rubbing along the extreme edges. This work is in overall good condition and could benefit from a light clean.
