Condition

It has not been possible to see the work entirely unframed. Executed on paper laid down on canvas, possibly by the family of the artist. There is an uneven varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating, however examination under UV light appears to reveal lines of retouching related to repaired tears towards the upper left and lower left and rights corners and a few dots of retouching related to repaired paper losses, notably one to the right part of the upper edge (approx. 40 cm from right edge) and two to the lower part of the left edge (approx. 12 cm from the lower edge). There are bubbles and creases in places, most predominately towards the lower right and left corners, all consistent with the laying down process. There are lines of craquelure, some of which associated with paper lifting, and surface scratches throughout the composition. This work is in overall fair and stable condition.
