Condition
This work is in very good condition. The canvas is unlined and on a good stretcher. The edges are covered with paper tape. The paint layer is clean and varnished. The deep purple color had become unstable in some areas. There is a small retouch in each of the two purple sections between the green striped areas in the upper right. There is one larger area of retouching at the lower point of the large curved purple shape in the lower center, measuring about 3 by 1 inches. The remainder of the painting is in beautiful condition, and the work should be hung as is. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)

Catalogue Note
"Painting and poetry, for Coronel, serve as self-expression. The relationship between this artist and painting is...amorous in the sense that he recognizes the existence of the work as an autonomous reality. The work would not exist without Coronel, but without the work, Coronel would not exist. The work gives him (gives us) a new existence. If the spectator seeks to delve into the painting of Coronel, they must reproduce this relationship of constant creation. The secret of a work resides as much in the work itself as in the spectator’s mind." Octavio Paz
