Galerie Karl Flinker, Paris Private Collection (acquired from the above and sold: Bonhams, New York, November 7, 2011, lot 40) Acquired from the above by the present owner
"Toledo is not a painter, a sketcher, a ceramicist or a sculptor, he probably isn't even an artist - in the usual sense of the word. He is a universe of shapes and traditions that are incessantly being transformed, and that also transform everything within their reach."
This work on canvas has a very heavy gesso layer. While the gesso has slightly distorted the canvas, resulting in slight waves to the surface, the paint layer is stable. The original pigment reads very strongly under ultraviolet light throughout. In the upper right, there are two retouches that show strongly under ultraviolet light. There is another retouch in the lower right. There are two small retouches in the center right, one about 1 inch by 1/4 inch and the other very small. There are no other retouches in the remainder of the picture. The work should be hung as is. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
